Choosing Better Insurance

Will Winter Tires Lower My Insurance Premium

Certain types of tires, especially performance tires, are not well-suited for the winter. They are instead designed to operate safely during the summer, but you may have a more difficult time controlling your car if you operate it over snow or ice. Switching to winter tires may lead to a discount on your auto insurance.

Why Winter Tires?

Tires are very susceptible to changes in temperature. Tires that are designed specifically to perform well under high temperatures can develop cracks when they are exposed to cold temperatures. You may suffer from a popped tire that might place your car at risk.

Tires designed for winter are made with a different rubber compound that is designed to be more resistant to cold weather. These tires also come with tread patterns or studs that are designed to grip the ground more easily.

Receiving a Discount for Winter Tires

If you want to pay less money for your auto insurance by obtaining winter tires, take a photograph of the winter tires on your vehicle. Then, you'll be able to upload the photograph online to confirm that your vehicle has winter tires. Provide a purchase receipt and an installation receipt.

The discount you receive will be based on the particular auto insurance company. Typically, the discount will range from 2% to 5%. There are often several other discounts you can obtain by making changes to your car, such as having an anti-theft system installed. Therefore, it can be surprisingly affordable to carry auto insurance when you minimize the amount of risk that you expose your insurance provider to.

Other Benefits for Winter Tires

Even if your insurance provider does not offer a discount for winter tires, you should still consider them if you drive in an area that has cold weather. They reduce the risk that you'll suffer from an accident, which might lead to an injury. Even if you are reimbursed for your medical expenses, you'll have to suffer through the pain and reduced mobility that might result from being injured when your car slides out of control.

Many motorists will offset the cost of winter tires by purchasing less expensive winter rims. Stylish summer rims shouldn't be used during the winter because the salt applied to the roads can cause damage to your more expensive rims. While winter tires can cost as much as $800, receiving an insurance discount can make them worthwhile.

About Me

Choosing Better Insurance

After struggling for months to recover after a natural disaster swept away our home, I realized that one of the things I needed to change moving forward was our insurance. We started focusing carefully on what we needed to do, and before we knew it, we were able to find a really great insurance provider who really understood what we needed. They were kind, caring, and incredibly accommodating, and it was a pleasure to get things taken care of. After we had our policies in place, it was interesting to see how much of a difference we were able to make. This blog is all about choosing better insurance.
