Choosing Better Insurance

3 Things That Will Affect Your Car Insurance

Nearly everyone has auto insurance. If you own a car, you are required by many states to carry some sort of insurance. Even if you don't own a car, but you drive once in a while, you should still have some insurance to protect yourself. Here are some things that will affect how much you pay for auto insurance:

1. Your Driving Record

Of the most important factors in how much your auto insurance will cost is your driving record. Every time you are pulled over by the police, and if you get a ticket, it will be on your record. The auto insurance companies view people who speed more often and who don't follow simple rules as more dangerous than those who don't have a record. Thus, driving safely won't only protect you, it will save you money on insurance.

You should know that if you get a ticket, you might have an option to go traffic school. This is when you take lessons that teach you how to be a better driver. You may have to pay more up front to attend traffic school, but it will prevent you from having the ticket on your record, so it won't affect how much you pay for insurance.

2. The Price Of Car You Drive

Second, you should know that the more expensive the car, the more likely you are to pay more for insurance. The insurance company will calculate how much it will cost them to repair your car should you file a claim. If you own a car that is cheap to replace (that is easy to get parts and is overall a cheaper car), you are going to save money on insurance. It is the people who buy a foreign car that is hard to get parts and is expensive to repair that will pay a lot more for auto insurance.

3. How Often You Drive

Lastly, how much you pay for insurance will also depend on how often you are driving. For instance, if you drive every day to work and you are commuting a long distance, you are going to pay a lot more than someone who only drives their car once or twice a week. Thus, if you can use public transportation or carpool with others, you will save a good deal of money.

As you can see, there are ways to save money on your car insurance.

About Me

Choosing Better Insurance

After struggling for months to recover after a natural disaster swept away our home, I realized that one of the things I needed to change moving forward was our insurance. We started focusing carefully on what we needed to do, and before we knew it, we were able to find a really great insurance provider who really understood what we needed. They were kind, caring, and incredibly accommodating, and it was a pleasure to get things taken care of. After we had our policies in place, it was interesting to see how much of a difference we were able to make. This blog is all about choosing better insurance.
